AI search just broke your inbound funnel
Read time: 3 minutes.
Welcome to the 213th edition of The Growth Elements Newsletter. Every Monday and sometimes on Thursday, I write an essay on growth metrics & experiments and business case studies.
Today’s piece is for 8,000+ founders, operators, and leaders from businesses such as Shopify, Google, Hubspot, Zoho, Freshworks, Servcorp, Zomato, Postman, Razorpay and Zoom.
Today’s The Growth Elements (TGE) is brought to you by:
The AI Playbook for Video Teams That Can't Slow Down
Wistia's new AI Video Marketing Trends report shows how marketers are using AI to handle the unglamorous work, so creative energy stays where it matters.
Marketing leaders across industries are using AI to reach broader audiences, move faster, and extend the shelf life of every video they make. The report breaks down how AI is improving speed and output quality, helping teams keep up with demand and raise the bar while they're at it.
Because when every channel needs video, you need leverage, not another meeting that could've been an email. AI clears the runway so ideas actually take off.
See how top teams are using AI to iterate, refine, and ship while keeping a human grip on taste, voice, and strategy.

Your blog traffic is down 30 to 50 percent. Your inbound MQLs have collapsed. The content investment you made in 2024 has quietly stopped paying back. The funnel did not break. The first click did.
[1] What happened
Organic traffic to B2B SaaS sites has dropped 30 to 50 percent since AI Overviews launched. Zero-click search now accounts for over 60 percent of all Google queries.
Buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude the questions you used to rank for. They get the answer in the chat window. They never visit your page.
Your top performing post from 2024 still ranks. The traffic just stopped arriving.
[2] Why it happened
LLMs are trained on your content and surface the answer without the link. The model summarises your insight, paraphrases your data, and quotes your conclusion. The buyer has no reason to click anything.
Buying behaviour shifted alongside it. B2B SaaS buyers now run shortlists through ChatGPT before opening a single tab. Brand discovery moved from Google to AI conversation.
If your name is not surfacing in those AI answers, you do not exist to that buyer.
[3] What you do about it
Stop optimising for rank. Start optimising for citation.
Write content with structured data, original benchmarks, and proprietary research that LLMs flag as authoritative.
Publish on platforms LLMs ingest fastest, which is LinkedIn, Reddit, and your own newsletter, not just your blog. Build distribution channels that bypass search entirely.
Your ICP no longer searches. Your ICP asks.
Final Words
[1] Audit your top 10 ranking pages this week. Compare actual traffic today against six months ago. The drop is bigger than you think.
[2] Run your brand and your top three competitors through ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude. See who shows up in the answers and why.
[3] Shift 40 percent of your content budget from SEO blogs to original research, benchmarks, and platform-native posts that LLMs cite.
That's it for today's article! I hope you found this essay insightful.
Wishing you a productive week ahead!
I always appreciate you reading.
